How to extend a shift with overtime while respecting the daily rest period between shifts?

At times, you might need to extend a Staff shift, but in doing so, the Minimal Time Rest (MTR) between shifts would not be met, and the system won't let you record this overtime. Let's see how we can circumvent this?

Let's assume that your MTR is set at 10 hrs and you have a Staff with a 20-04 followed by a 14-22. Your aim is to add 2 hours extra after the 20-04 (xHrs 04-06). SMRT won't allow you to record extra hours after 4am, however you need the Staff to work those extra hours.

Recording the xHrs 04-06 at the end of the 20-04 shift is not possible.

The first thing we need to do is to increase the MTR between 20-04 and 14-22. We have two options.
Change the 14-22 to a later shift (at least 2 hours) but maybe this solution does not fit your set up.
Create a 2 hrs holiday for the 14-22 shift like 14-22 (Hol 14-16), then record the xHrs 04-06. This will keep your MTR at 10 hours.
Option 1 is not possible and the Staff does not have any Holiday balance left to record the (Hol 14-16), therefore option 2 is out of the window.

How to make it work?

Fill in the xHrs form for extra work between 04 and 06.
Select the Pay code TOIL (Time Off In Lieu). This will credit the Staff Holiday balance with an extra 2 hours.
Tick the Book this TOIL on the next shift.
Click Save.

Create a 2 hours TOIL and book a 2 hours Holiday for the next shift
